ISOH/Impact Drop

Good Morning Girlfriends!
Yesterday morning, Rod Trim and I, with the help of Sue Northrop, loaded up my van to the max with part of the supplies that we have collected for Haiti.

Rod, I and my son, Rowan all headed out to the ISOH/Impact warehouse in Waterville to deliver the items. When we arrived we began to unload everything with the help of a couple of their workers. One of the first things to go into my van were three tents that the Eisenhower 6th Grade Girl Scout troop donated.

When the ISOH/Impact worker saw the tents she was amazed. She said, "You brought tents? You brought three tents? WOW! That's awesome!" I responded that I didn't do anything, I just brought them, that a Girl Scout troop had donated them. She said, "You tell that Girl Scout troop they didn't just donate their tents, they gave three Haitian family homes!"

WOW! This troop when they donated never thought that that's what they were doing, the saw tents on the list and remember that they had three tents they hadn't used but once. They decided to give them knowing in some way it would help ISOH/Impact. What an fantastic thing to find out - their selfless gift will house three Haitian families probably for more than a year as Haiti slowly rebuilds. This is crucial considering the first news report I heard this morning is that they are beginning to build tent cities outside of Port-au-Prince, they have to get the people out of the city so relief efforts can continue.

Ladies, if for a second you somehow believe that your donation doesn't matter, remember that we are not just donating to a cause or to an organization...we are giving life and hope, housing and shelter, aid and love to people, to families, to orphans, to mourning parents...to people that God love's. Perhaps you have a tent in great shape sitting in your garage that you never use, why not provide a Haitian family with a home?

One more thing - as Rod and I delivered all of your items, we couldn't help but realize the huge need for help at that warehouse! Nothing can leave their warehouse without first being organized and packaged for shipping. They NEED help!!!!!

Saturday morning at 10 am - I will be at the church to load up whatever we have to take. PLEASE clear your calendar - be there - help us load and then go with us to ISOH/Impact to volunteer a couple of hours preparing all the stuff for shipping!

Thank you so much for all your donations!

Haitian Disaster Relief

A major earthquake measuring 7.0 magnitude on the Richter scale hit Haiti Tuesday evening shortly before 5 P.M. Eastern Standard Time. The initial quake lasted about a minute, followed by strong 5.9 and 5.5 aftershocks. The epicenter of Haiti's earthquake was six miles west of Carrefour, just outside the capital city of Port-au-Prince.

"There are many injured all over the city, major buildings, three and four stories, are down. ... Neighbors who work for the United Nations report many injured, people carrying wounded through the streets." ~ Bill Dawson, Nazarene French Field Strategy Coordinator

The population in the capital area is approximately two million people, living in dense urban communities, and they continue to experience significant aftershocks. Catastrophic casualties and damage are expected, as Haiti's weak infrastructure is not prepared for this kind of disaster.

Here’s what we can do to help:

Hope Community Church has partnered with ISOH/Impact (www.isohimpact.org), a local Christian disaster relief organization. We are collecting the following items at Hope Community Church (5650 Starr Ave. Oregon, Ohio). This list is not exhaustive and we may update it occasionally as we learn of new needs.

• Medical supplies and equipment
• Bug repellent, cleaning supplies
• Canned fruits, vegetables & meats, manual can openers
• Rice
• Blankets
• Cots
• Clothes
• Diapers, disposable hand wipes
• Flashlights with batteries
• Large plastic garbage bags, plastic plates
• Laundry detergent
• Purchased bottled water
• Toiletries & toilet paper
• Tents, tarps and ropes

Please bring your items to Hope Community Church as soon as possible! As the trailer fills, we will take it to ISOH/Impact, bring it back to the church and fill it again! The need is great! Please help!!!

Happy New Year

“In 2009, I resolve to build and strengthen relationships that my gracious God has so blessed me with. I resolve to fortify the friendships that God has already placed in my life by spending more time with the people I treasure. I am determined to take relationships beyond their current borders, to reach out to those in my sphere of influence and create opportunities to get to know everyone even better.”

That was my 2009 resolution. As I look back over the year, I believe that I have finally made it through a year with the ability to say that I was successful in my resolution. I got to know people better. I invited people over for dinner more often. I stopped to listen, many times putting aside a schedule in order to be present in someone else’s life. I made new friends, and I strengthened old relationships.

It is no mistake that this resolution was kept. Because unlike, vowing to make it to the gym or to try that new diet, or spend less or maybe even spend more…building relationships was what we were created to do! God created us to be in relationship with Him and He created us to be together! He created us to do life together! Not to be alone! My 2009 resolution was successful because it was God’s plan from the beginning, not because of anything I did or didn’t do, but because God was there with me. And I make that same resolution this year!

My prayer is that as a Church, we will work even harder to build and strengthen the relationships that God has given us. We are a family! May 2010 be a year of journeying together!!!! Keep your eyes open and your hearts willing because together with Christ we can do anything!!!!

Happy New Year to all of you! May God so richly bless you and your family in 2010! And may He tarry just a little longer; there is still much work to be done! May He give us all perseverance to make it through the tough times that lie ahead clinging to Him as our foundation. May we all keep the faith and stand firm in His glory and Word. As Isaiah said, if we do not stand firm in our faith, we will not stand at all! I pray that God will give us the peace and strength to stand firm in our faith together!
